Girl Up Songbird started in 2020 as an initiative under the Girl Up campaign of the United Nations Foundation. The word Songbird is an ode to Otto Van Peters, one of the pioneer feminists of the French Revolution, whose musings sparked the first flames of women empowerment.

Just like her,  GU Songbird aspires to be the voice for social change and  to help in eliminating barriers through sensitivity and awareness, and educate others about gender-related issues through social and community building activities.
